Please respond and let me know what night would be best for a game in Ghent (note that we already have a good game in Portsmouth on Wednesdays, so lets shoot for a different day).

The best spot I am aware of is the Jeff Robertson Park in West Ghent (near 21st and Hampton Blvd). It is a nice open field that doesn't see a ton of use, but it doesn't have goals. If someone knows of a better field, let me know (I think the one at Bolling Ave and Hampton Blvd is way small after driving over there on Monday, but we can use that if everyone wants).

How about Sunday (any time of day), to balance out the Wednesday Portsmouth game?

Thanks for organising this, Ian!

how about Lafayette Park near the Zoo on granby, ive seen people out there kids and adults, does anyone know of this field or its status?

I know Lafayette Park - sometimes it is very busy but generally seems to be available. They don't have soccer goals as far as I know, but there are some old-style football goalposts that can potentially double as goals.

There is currently pick up going on Sunday afternoons at Larchmont - the fields at Bolling and Hampton. There are two fields in that area, the tiny one you're talking about is where the ODU Rugby team practices. Diagonal to that across the street - the big field is behind Larchmont Elementary. You can either turn onto Bolling towards Colley or go to the back left of the WHRO parking lot by some tennis courts. There are goals.

I think the field at Jeff Robertson Park at 21st and Hampton is used by a lot of dog walkers, so you have to watch out for poop while you play. EVMS students play there often, but you have to make your own goals.

Lafayette Park is where the ODU Rugby team plays games on the weekends. Most public parks are first-come first serve, so if we pick a time and place a field isn't used it should be fine.

Hey all, I can vouch that there're still pickup games being played on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at the Larchmont Elementary site. I'd say Tuesday is the most relaxed day, pretty laid back with smaller numbers like 6s or so, many of them graduate students from ODU. Friday and Sunday all depend on pitch space, especially Friday, as large numbers of youth sports compete for the playing surface. This can lead to huge games (bigger than 11s) that aren't much fun at all, so it can be a bit "eh". I've heard of a Saturday game as well, but I have to know how to cut myself off at some point, and I've yet to try that day. Oh and each of those games starts around 6 PM, and since I'm new to the gang just this spring/summer, I have no idea what they do in the winter when this time would obviously conflict with darkness.

I haven't been able to get out to this location, but I will add it to the pick-up schedule. Do you know if there are lights there, so we'll be able to continue in winter?
