Your Pickup Soccer Resource

The Formula

How to create your own pickup soccer group:

You can create your own soccer group that enables group emailing, forums etc. by simply creating a group here online. However, you might read the blurb below as it outlines some useful tips for creating pickup groups specifically.

IMPORTANT QUICK PRE-NOTE: You can also use Spoccer to do useful things such as creating a group to manage your soccer league team. Eg. Simple create a group called "Your team name" and tell your players to signup. They can then email on another etc. to stay updated about games etc.

Here's how Spoccer can help in 3 steps:

You really don't need very much to get your own pickup group going. Having your own group is very valuable because it basically means you can play pretty much whenever you feel like it by simply sending a quick email out to your Spoccer group. Something along the lines of "Hey anyone wanna play pickup this evening at 6:30pm?". Here are the 3 simple steps to getting started:

Step 1) Sign up on Spoccer.com and create your own pickup soccer group.

This couldn't be easier. Just sign up as a member at Spoccer.com and then create your own pickup group. Make sure to name your group something that makes sense enough to attract members. For example you will see the "Richmond VA" group; People know that when they sign up to join this group that they will more than likely find pickup soccer in Richmond VA. An important note here is that you should add something like "To be decided" on your pickup group homepage until you get enough people to play - general 8 - 10 people will be enough for a good kick around.

Step 2) Find a ball and a green field anywhere:

All you really need is a ball, a couple of cheap orange cones from Walmart (like a buck each) and a green space. Basically just look around town for an open space and it's more than likely suitable for playing some ball. Remember this is not the Champions league so it doesn't have to be the perfect pitch. Some people like to play with full size goals but we don't always have the luxury or that and so a ball and 2 pairs of cones will do just fine.

Step 3) Post a little flyer in your local coffee shop or supermarket and email a couple of friends:

You might be wondering what the hell you need Spoccer for if you are posting notes everywhere but posting a flyer say in your local college cafeteria, local coffee shop, supermarket or public place is just a little extra help and can be useful in finding people that might be interested in playing. Make sure to add a reference to Spoccer.com on there with a little explanation that members can join your group online. You will start to see members join and before you know it you will have enough people to play, post messages on the forums, blog etc! We even have the perfect flyer created for you - just print off and post it somewhere, it couldn't be easier: Download the flyer

Hey presto, you have your very own soccer group!
